Events Added To Foursquare’s Check In Database

Social location based service Foursquare has added the new option of events check ins. Previously users could check in to various locations around the world, ranging from the White House to your local supermarket. One of the most notable Foursquare users is none other than US President Barack Obama, now people can see all the different kinds of events he attends as well as places.

The new feature when launched will enable users to check in from a host of different events it has been reported by Mashable. Most commonly like showings of movies in the cinema, music concerts, sports events etc. Foursquare has spoken about the improvement to their service, stating that they are adding major events to their database after studying the most common check in places. The cinema was one of the most visited hotspots for Foursquare users so it makes sense to go a step further and share your experience with your friends.

Foursquare has said that all you have to do is go to your location and then search the event. For example go to the cinema, say or type Harry Potter movie and then check in, its as simple as that. They have even provided times for certain events so you can even let people know what showing you have checked in to. Foursquare has turned to its partners to provide the events from their databases, those being MovieTickets.com, music site Songkick and also sports broadcaster ESPN.

These 3 partners together will provide details on events taking place in over 50,000 venues in the coming months. You may be aware that Facebook also offers a check in service called “Facebook Places” but they slightly differ. Facebook’s check in users can create their own locations and gather at them. The event check in service for Foursquare is already live on the iPhone, coming to Android and other platforms soon.
