Galaxy S II vs Rumored Droid HD: Exhibit Similarities

As the smartphone market continually sees a rise in devices, the decision of what to purchase is getting harder and harder. A fair few handsets are making their way to retailers in the coming months which include speedy dual-core processors, cameras with bigger megapixels, possible inclusion of 3D without the need for those funky glasses, cleaner crisper displays and so on.

Two big devices from what can only be described as a massive choice of smartphones is that of the Samsung Galaxy S II and Motorola’s Droid Bionic. Sammy’s has already released in most countries with the US waiting, word is that the phone is coming on or around the 29th August with the Droid Bionic coming at the beginning of September.

But its news of another from Motorola, the Droid HD that has caught our eye. Already today, our very own Debbie has spoken about the Droid Bionic along with images of the Droid HD and its looking pretty impressive, but how will it fair against the Samsung Galaxy S II or preferred name in the States.

First up if we feast our eyes on the Droid HD, the screen size is possibly that of a 4.5-inch qHD, this compared to many of the others such as the Galaxy S II and HTC Sensation is much larger, even the Bionic’s screen matches to these. Running on what looks to be Android’s Gingerbread OS, the new Droid HD addition is rumored from Engadget to have an 8 megapixel rear camera with 1080p, front-facing camera, the device seems to have a side loading SIM and microSD slots on the left of the handset with a volume rocker and power button to the other side. In terms of thickness, the Droid HD is slimmer on comparison to the Bionic but equals that of the Galaxy S II.

A thinner but larger removable battery has also been noted but will this be enough to tempt you into the hands of Motorola and bypass the Samsung Galaxy S II? This we cannot answer but both are definitely forces to be reckoned with. At the present time until officially announced, we cannot take the Droid HD specs sheet as gospel but its worth noting it down.

In terms of the Galaxy S II features, this includes a 4.3-inch Super Amoled Plus display, running on Android’s Gingerbread OS, 8 megapixel rear and 2 megapixel camera to the front, 1.2GHz dual-core processor, latest TouchWiz UI, 16GB of internal memory with support up to 32GB, 1GB of RAM, 1650mAh battery and so on.

With the Samsung wowing customers worldwide and the Droid Bionic to drop in the not so distant future, what are your thoughts on the new Droid HD? Will it do enough to supersede the other two?
