T-Mobile Samsung Hercules (S II): Oct 26th Goal?

The list of current and forthcoming smartphones is continually expanding and its a job to pinpoint our favorite(s). One dominating device on a global scale is that of Samsung’s Galaxy S II and its a job for anyone else to get close to it, but that may be about to change with handsets from Motorola, HTC and Apple on the way.

We know that the Galaxy S II is rumored to arrive Stateside on or around the 29th August and dependant on what carrier you choose, they will all come with different names. For example the Verizon will run with the name Function, AT&T the Attain, T-Mobile the Samsung Hercules and the Epic 4G Touch a variant for Sprint.

But its the Hercules which has stirred up yet more news today! Just recently we brought you news that a smartphone was winging its way to the mobile phone world and it was looking pretty impressive. Then at the beginning of this month it became apparent that the Hercules was indeed a variant of the Galaxy S II. In fact the Hercules will come with a much larger screen of 4.5-inches compared to the 4.3-inches already on the present S II.

What’s now interested us is a possible release date for the Hercules of October 26th. According to Amar Toor over at Engadget via Tmo News, a leaked slideshow has surfaced pointing to the October date for not just the Hercules but another, that of the new HTC Ruby (HTC Amaze 4G) of which we spoke about yesterday.

From the snippets of Hercules information we have so far, its looking to include a Super Amoled touchscreen, 4G capability, 8 megapixel rear camera and 2 megapixel to the front, this equals to that of the Galaxy S II plus 16GB of flash storage. As to whether the Hercules will come with a 1.2GHz dual-core Qualcomm Snapdragon processor is still anybody’s guess, along with Near Field Communication (NFC) allowing you to pay for a purchase with your handset.

In terms of price, yet again nothing concrete has been given but our very own Tim reported that it may release with a tag of $300. If the Hercules does release on October 26th, this will do so a month after it was initially due to arrive.

Tell us your gut feeling on the Samsung Hercules? Are you impressed with what you’ve heard so far, or are you opting with another carrier and not T-Mobile? Would you be willing to part with nearly $300?

I’d rather see these phones at a $200 price point. If it launches at $300, I’m sure if I can stand to wait a few weeks I’ll find a special sale somewhere to bring it closer to $200. I think I’d prefer 4.3″ over the 4.5″ screen – just a little more “pocketable.” Sounds like a great phone though. I need to replace my 18-month-old Blackberry that feels like an antique now compared to the Android phones.
