Facebook Lets You Relive Memories With 2010′s Status Update

One of the main functions that some people use Facebook for is being able to look back on the old. Connecting with old school friends and looking through pictures from the past are things that some people use the site for and now another feature has been added to rekindle the memories. Facebook has now included a small box on the side which reminds you of your status update on that day, exactly 1 or 2 years back.

This feature typically appears when you are browsing photo albums, according to Ben Parr writing over on Mashable. The updates only go back to 2009 and 2010, which is probably the year you signed up anyway because the site was not that big in 2008 and before. You will be pleased to know that if you posted updates multiple times on that particular day then you can view them all. I have tried to experience the feature on my profile but have had no luck so far.

Facebook rolled the feature out a few days back, making no great announcement so it may only be available for some at this point. We are not sure if this is just a bit of fun they are testing out or if it is a feature that is here to stay. Personally I think it seems a fun feature that will have many saying something like: “OMG! I remember that, it was so funny!”.

This new little feature could be aimed as a subtle attack at Google+. With Facebook reminding its users about all of the great times they have had on the site over the years it may make them think twice about abandoning them for the new kid on the block. Google’s social networking service has so far stormed to success and may have Facebook in a bit of a sweat after their rival passed 25 million users in record time.

You may notice last week that another change was made to the wretched Facebook Chat service. The “awesome” change that the site promised was one of the most hated updates ever and to make things slightly less worse, Facebook now gives the option to show other online friends instead of a selection they have hand picked for you, on or offline. Facebook may even be in danger of a temporary outage as they meet this week with the UK government over the London Riots.

So have u been able to find Facebook’s new feature yet? Do you think it is a good idea to let users relive previous experiences on the site or is it just a waste of time? Let us know your thoughts on this in the comments section.
