Twitter Top 10 Trends: England’s Riots & Jonas Brothers Feature

It’s that time of the week again where we look back upon one of the largest social networks and one that continues to grow at the things that have been trending on it. That’s right, we are talking about Twitter and the top 10 trending topics that come courtesy of Mashable’s Matt Silverman and we were pretty certain would feature the riots in England. There’s even another surprise inclusion for the Jonas Brothers!

Jumping in at number 10 we have Jasmine Villegas, this topic began trending as Jasmine released her new song titled “Just a Friend” and fans were tweeting their support. The topic that managed to get into the chart in 9th this week is the Jonas Brothers. They were trending because they were all doing all sorts of different things, Nick Jonas was appearing in a Broadway production of Hairspray, Camp Rock 2 was replayed on TV and Joe Jonas was opening for Britney Spears.

In 8th spot in the chart this week we have Super Junior; this is because there was a new song that appeared on the TV show KBS Music Bank called “Mr.Simple.” Now we are at the 7th position in the chart which regularly appears in top spot Football/Soccer, had this one been given another day or so before the cut off then it might have reached 1st again as there was so much on Twitter about Cesc Fabregas leaving Arsenal for FC Barcelona. Put that together with the England Vs Holland being called off because of the London riots and Wesley Sneijder still rumored to be going to Manchester United means that anything above Football/Soccer this week has been extremely viral.

The trend in 6th position this week is One Direction as the new(ish) boy band released their debut single called “What Makes You Beautiful.” We are at the half way point in the chart now and we have the long awaited collaborative album between Kanye West and Jay-Z called “Watch The Throne.”

The topic that came in at 4th position this week is Chris Brown, the reason his name was trending is because he released his own mix tape with the majority of the attention coming from Justin Bieber’s inclusion on the tap called “Boy In Detention.” We are now breaching the top 3 now with Facebook as they have released their new app for the iOS and on Android smartphones, it’s called Facebook chat and people were tweeting about it causing it to trend.

We are almost at the top of the chart with 2nd spot being occupied by another of the most regular names we see in the chart, Justin Bieber. As we mentioned previously he appeared on the Chris Brown mix tape but he also appeared at the Teen Choice Awards and apparently broke up with Selena Gomez.

We are there, number 1 position in the chart and it’s a pretty shameful one. England Riots tops this week’s chart with a number of different #Tags appearing after activity in London, Manchester and Birmingham. There were many other locations included and also a lot on standby just in case things started kicking off.

That’s it for this week’s chart and if you missed last week’s then click here to catch up with it. What did you think of this week’s top 10? Were there any surprises for you that either appeared or didn’t? Let us know in the comments section below.
