Sky Sports News App for Android: In time for Premier League Season

It has seemed like a long wait for many but at last the English Premier League season is beginning and football fans all over are gearing up for the highs and lows ahead. Today we have heard news that will no doubt please many of you as the Sky Sports News app is finally available on the Android platform.

Laid out in a similar way to its iPhone equivalent with a clear set up and spilt into different categories for different sports, this app will be a great way of keeping in touch with all the upcoming sporting events. We know that many of you football fans in particular, would like nothing better than to sit in front of your TVs for the next few months but there’s always the possibility that you could eventually take root on your sofas and this app will enable you to carry on with a near-normal social life while still keeping in touch with all the latest football news.

We should also remind you that this app, which is free, will also give you news on other sports going on, including of course the London 2012 Olympics. News of the app came to us from Richard Devine over on Android Central and you can see more about the app and install it if you choose from the Android Market link here. The app is available for those running Android 1.6 and later though Android Central notes that for some reason the Radio service which is part of the app, only works for those handsets using Android 1.6 to 2.2 and seeing as there’s a lot of you now running Android 2.3 Gingerbread that’s a bit of a mystery. We would hope that this would be rectified soon.

Benefits from the app include the latest scores, fixtures, tables news and as you would expect, all of the results and also provides exclusive video content with interviews and reactions to the top sports news stories. It also has a customizable home screen and the sports, which have dedicated areas are football, rugby union, rugby league, cricket, tennis, golf, boxing and F1, now coming to Sky Sports.
