iPhone 5 vs Ice Cream Sandwich Nexus Prime: Nokia N9 Out

A few weeks ago we heard about what is thought will be the first Android handset that will run on the new Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich operating system, the Nexus Prime. It is thought it will be manufactured by Samsung and has also been referred to as the Google Nexus 4G. Today we wanted to look at the Apple iPhone 5 vs. the Nexus Prime as it seems the release date of the Nexus Prime may have been brought forward to compete with Apple’s next iPhone.

Previously we already posted a comparison between the iPhone, the Nexus Prime and the HTC Eternity, but at that time it was thought that the iPhone 5 would be coming around September or October time, which is still when most of us expect it to make an appearance, while the Nexus Prime wasn’t due to be released until around Thanksgiving. However the news is in today from Jonathan S. Geller over on BGR that the first Google Ice Cream Sandwich devices may instead launch in October, just in time to give real competition to the iPhone 5.

BGR’s source told the site that the first Ice Cream Sandwich devices were now anticipated to launch in October rather than the later date planned, because Google doesn’t want to lose potential customers to the iPhone. As a brief rundown on specs then of course Apple is notoriously secretive about its new products but widespread rumors have the iPhone 5 as including an A5 processor, larger screen and a much-improved camera of possibly 8-megapixels. Check out this infographic detailed here, which shows the likelihood of various features and specs.

For the Nexus Prime we are expecting a 4G LTE handset with a 1.2GHz dual-core processor, with some expecting a 1.5GHz dual-core processor. It’s also thought that the Nexus Prime will have 1GB of RAM, a 4-inch display with 720p HD and a 5-megapixel camera featuring an advanced sensor with enhanced low-light performance. For those who fancy an Android handset this will be a real temptation then and the fact that it could now be released at the same time as the iPhone 5 will no doubt increase its market share even further. Of course it also has that 4G connectivity while we don’t know yet whether this will come to the iPhone 5.

Others of you though may have been lured by the thought of the Nokia N9 running the MeeGo OS, which is said to have a pretty impressive camera. However a few days ago we told how there was no some doubt about whether the Nokia N9 would be released in the U.S. and today Darren Murph over on Engadget tells how it has now been confirmed by Nokia that at this time there are no plans to release the N9 in the U.S. That may disappoint some of you who’d hoped to get the option of the Nokia N9 but there are undoubtedly some other great handsets coming out such as the iPhone 5 and Nexus Prime and also the Motorola Droid Bionic and Samsung Galaxy S II stateside.

Are you tempted by the first Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich OS smartphone, the Nexus Prime, especially as it may now be out in time to rival the next iPhone? Let us know with your comments.
