Only a couple of days ago we reported on what looked to be a new smartphone being spotted in the wild called the Samsung Hercules. Since it was spotted we have been keeping an eye on proceedings and have found that the new Hercules device has been confirmed to be a Samsung Galaxy S II cousin.
When we reported on the device previously, we had minimal details about it. We reported on its apparent godly specifications including a 4.5-inch Super AMOLED touchscreen display with 16GB of flash storage, an 8 megapixel rear facing camera and maybe even a front facing 2 megapixel camera. It would seem that the device has been confirmed to be a Samsung Galaxy S II variant meaning that the device looks like it could be heading for T-Mobile, TELUS and maybe even Sprint.
Engadget’s Sharif Sakr has added a report on the device with some images from TMoNews.com showing the device with the Galaxy S II branding. Sakr also mentions that this smartphone seems to have everything going for it with the exception of NFC, which is of course becoming more and more popular.
TMoNews.com’s managing editor David has added an article talking about the device with the most exciting feature for this device being on T-Mobile’s network, HSPA+ 42Mbps and this will be T-Mobile’s first. Pocketnow’s author Evan Blass has added an article of his own about the device and as things stand, TMoNews are the only place to get a snap of the back of the device showing the Galaxy S II branding making it a variant, well done to them for obtaining the information! He also mentions that the device DOES have NFC capabilities before informing us of the apparent release date being September 26th and also saying that the device will be pretty pricey, maybe $300 or more!
It’s good that the U.S. will finally get a Samsung Galaxy S II as they have been waiting for quite some time for it and with the Motorola Droid Bionic lurking in the wings, perhaps they should release it sooner rather than later. There’s a big expectation that whichever of the two is released first will become a top seller, which is great news with the iPhone 5 release perhaps being just around the corner.
