Apply With LinkedIn Button Launched: Making Job Hunting Easier

One of our favorite social media topics here on OSM is LinkedIn, the social networking site aimed at professionals. Back in June we told you of a new feature that was coming to LinkedIn, a job application button and today we can tell you the ‘Apply With LinkedIn’ button has now been launched.

This is a useful new feature that should certainly make job-hunting a bit easier and we reckon it could really catch on quite quickly. LinkedIn is describing the new aspect of the site as “the future of job applications” as it will enable users to apply for jobs with one simple click. Jonathan Seitel, LinkedIn’s Technical Product Manager, stated on the company blog, “Our goal with Apply With LinkedIn is to help every professional put their best foot forward, anywhere across the web when they take that leap to apply for a new position,” according to Ben Parr over on Mashable.

Once companies catch on to the new feature and embed the Apply With LinkedIn button on their websites it can be used in much the same way as the Facebook ‘Like’ button or the Twitter ‘Tweet’ button except that by using the Apply With LinkedIn button the user will be able to submit their LinkedIn profile as a resume, without the need for a covering letter. After you’ve put in your application you can also message contacts at the company, request referrals and manage your job applications so that you can check who you have sent your submissions to by using a ‘Saved Jobs’ tab.

The Apply With LinkedIn button is very easy for employers to put into operation on their websites and already integrates with other application tracking systems, plus employers have the benefit of a uniform profile that’s easily recognizable. Some of the initial companies to implement the Apply With LinkedIn button are Netflix, Photobucket and Tripit. It does seem that more and more companies are now viewing the traditional type of resume as rather outdated and to that end you might also be interested in our recent article about creating the perfect modern digital resume.

One drawback that Mashable did note though was that many people might just make multiple job applications even for jobs they’re not suitable for, simply because it has been made so easy. If you want to see more about the new Apply With LinkedIn button you can also see a slideshow portraying how it works on the Mashable link earlier in this article.

Do you use LinkedIn and if so will you make use of this new feature to apply for jobs? Maybe you’re a prospective employer who is about to install the button on your website? Let us know with your comments.
