Droid Bionic Moveable Release: August 4 or Not Until September?

The Motorola Droid Bionic, Samsung Galaxy S2 and Apple iPhone 5 appear to be the triad of smartphones that are most awaited in the US at the moment. We’ve not been secretive about our enthusiasm for the Droid Bionic on Verizon although the release date has been a moveable feast. Now we hear that the August 4 release date that we detailed previously looks more likely to be accurate than ever, or is it? Another report we’ve seen suggests the Droid Bionic release date won’t be until September, so what can we believe?

Recently we took a look at the looming release of the Droid Bionic and detailed what we know so far and what we don’t know. The release date is one of those things that so far are unconfirmed but we did pass on the news about an August 4 release date that looked fairly promising. That August 4 date came from a leaked internal screenshot and was widely reported across the web. We even wondered if it may become available a week earlier on July 28 for direct fill orders only, as the Droid 3 was also released on direct fill a week earlier than it appeared in stores and we had previously heard rumors of a July 28 release date for the Bionic.

We know how many of our readers are waiting for the Droid Bionic and so first we’ll give you the good news. According to Kellex over on Droid-Life, sourced from Satellite Guys, the leaked internal screenshot that got everybody excited about an August 4 release is still evident in both Walmart and Sam’s Club stores and has been for around two weeks. Early evidence of release dates from both stores has been pretty accurate in the past and of course this release would still be in the summer when Motorola has said all along that it would appear. You can see that a forum thread at Satellite News contains news from an employee at Walmart who wishes to confirm the August 4 date from an internal website and was actually told to go ahead by a co-worker.

So the bad news? Droid-Life also cites a previous report of theirs where they say they have heard that the Droid Bionic release could still be over a month away, in fact it may not make an appearance until September 1. What’s more the gut feeling on the site is that this later release date is more likely and the August 4 date will come and go with no sign of the Bionic. This would disappoint a lot of people all over again. We recently told how Motorola was rewarding the patience of those who had waited for the Bionic but we’d suggest that their patience might not last too much longer.

We’d be interested to hear your thoughts on this. Are you waiting keenly for the Bionic and were you getting excited about August 4? If the Bionic doesn’t see a release until September will you continue to wait? Let us know with your comments.

Are we pushing the technology too fast here? We haven’t seen a dual core, qHD, 4G LTE phone or tablet yet. It doesn’t look either the iPhone 5 or the Galaxy S II Function will be 4G LTE. Maybe it would be better to just forget about 4G LTE until such time that powerful phones can work well on the 4G LTE network. If the Bionic is being delayed again, maybe this phone isn’t worth purchasing.

I had the LG Revolution for 6 days. It was fast but had Bing and the Keyboard was aweful. I’ve been waiting for the Bionic for ever it seems. Besides the LG Revolution I’ve only had Motorola phones but if the Bionic is pushed back again I’ll have to get something else as this proves Motorola is in over their heads with the 4G LTE.
