Galaxy S2 / S II Within for Sprint Photo Leaks: Release Nearer?

Here at OSM one of our most popular topics lately has been the Samsung Galaxy S2 / S II Android smartphone. Lately though, writing about the huge success of this smartphone has seemed like rubbing salt into the wounds of those in the U.S. who have yet to see a release. However, we now hear that some photos have come to light which purport to be the Galaxy S2 Within for Sprint. It these images are the real deal maybe it won’t be too much longer until the S2 finally makes its US appearance.

However a while back we reported on some images of what was apparently the Galaxy S2 AT&T version, the Attain and that still hasn’t made it to the market yet. We’ve written a number of articles now about the non-appearance of the Galaxy S2 in the US, wondering why Samsung weren’t in a hurry to release this device and also giving some more reasons why it may not have appeared. If you’re waiting for it to arrive in the US though none of this is any comfort, especially bearing in mind Bell customers in Canada will be able to get their hands on the Galaxy S2 in less than a week now.

The images which appear to be of the Sprint Galaxy S2 were brought to our attention by Chris Ziegler over on This is My Next. One shows the back of the handset bearing both Sprint and Samsung logos and also an 8-megapixel camera, which we know is a feature of the Galaxy S2. Ziegler feels that the images certainly line up with the S2 and so this could be the genuine article. This is My Next was also informed that this handset was running Android 2.3.4 and so owners will be able to use Google Talk video chat right from the off.

Over on Cnet, Jessica Dolcourt also reports on these leaked images and notes that this backs up what is expected of the Galaxy S2 release with slightly different variants for different carriers, as Samsung did with the original Galaxy S. For instance these latest photos show a more rounded handset than the unlocked version that was reviewed and also has a more substantial volume rocker that looks metallic rather than plastic.

It certainly looks as though Samsung is a step closer to getting the Galaxy S2 released in the US so fingers crossed, we could be seeing the launch sooner rather than later. You never know, it could even beat the Motorola Droid Bionic and Apple iPhone 5 out of the trap. Are you waiting for the US release of the Galaxy?
