Apple iPhone 5 Release Draws Near? Beta Testing Well Underway

The Apple iPhone 5 remains the focus of a lot of speculation and rumor and one theme that’s occupying a lot of people at the moment concerns a release date. We’ve been hearing conflicting rumors almost every day but today’s news gives us hope of the release drawing nearer as we have heard that the beta testing for the iPhone 5 is well underway.

Just in the last week we’ve heard opposing rumors about the next iPhone release. For some time we felt the likely release would be around September or October and then earlier this week our Maddy Rowe brought us news of rumors concerning an August 16 release date. More pointers then still indicated an August release but just as we were getting used to this idea we then heard another rumor of further delays, maybe into 2012, because of apparent problems with the new processor in the iPhone 5 overheating. However it now appears as though various carriers are finally testing the much-anticipated handset for use on their networks.

International Business Times points to a report from ChipHazard which says, “the iPhone 5 is now in the hands of 3rd party beta testers, which are carrying out rigorous tests before the final green signal is given for mass production.” It was further stated that AT&T were handed the iPhone 5 for beta testing on July 6. This of course will give a lot of people hope for an August release after all.

IBT also points to a further report, this time from Examiner.com, which said that the iPhone 5 T-Mobile version was now being tested in Los Angeles and there was unconfirmed news that both AT&T and Verizon models were also undergoing beta testing. According to the Examiner report, a pre-release edition of the iPhone 5 was undergoing tests for signal reception and also connectivity, by various beta testers. The conclusion being that once these tests were completed mass production would begin.

We recently reported on the possibility of the iPhone 5 coming to Sprint and T-Mobile as well as AT&T and Verizon and this would certainly seem to back that up. Another report on ArtoftheiPhone also re-iterates this news and further tells how pre-production models of the iPhone 5 have been given to various networks to test. We have also spotted a further report on Examiner.com which tells how Sprint will also be testing the iPhone 5 in Los Angeles from this coming Monday, July 18, along with testing in New York, Dallas, San Francisco and Chicago, so this will please a lot of people as it would be the only carrier with the iPhone 5 still offering an unlimited 4G data plan.
