HTC Status on AT&T Pre-Order With Best Buy – Release July 17

Here at OSM we like to bring our readers all the latest news on smartphones coming to the market and following its successful release of the HTC EVO 3D on Sprint, we now have news today of another HTC handset about to come to AT&T, the HTC Status. This handset was previously known as the HTC ChaCha and pre-orders for the Status are available now through Best Buy for a release on July 17.

We recently told about the name change and the fact that the Status was coming to AT&T but we didn’t have a release date at that time. The pre-sale is now open according to a Best Buy press release that we have received, with a release date of July 17 at Best Buy stores and online at BestBuy.com/mobiles. We first brought news of the HTC Status as the HTC ChaCha back in February when it was introduced as a Facebook phone with the inclusion of a Facebook button for easy access. More recently we informed you about its UK release and then upped processor speed.

As a recap on specs and features we can tell you that the HTC Status runs on Android 2.3 Gingerbread and has a combination touchscreen and QWERTY keyboard. It also has an 800MHz Qualcomm processor, 512MB of RAM and features a 5-megapixel rear with LED flash along with a front-facing VGA camera too. Although the specs are nothing to write home and it’s not a handset for those where it’s all about the specs, the big selling point for the HTC Status will be that dedicated Facebook button. We think there will be a market for this kind of handset (think teenagers never off Facebook) and the Facebook integration means that whatever else the user is doing they can also share instantly by accessing the social networking site with one button.

The price from Best Buy is a pretty basic $49.99 on the usual two-year contract and Best Buy will also exclusively carry a mauve-colored model as well as a white/silver model. A full range of accessories from cases to screen shields for the HTC Status on AT&T will also be available. As well as this there will be ongoing support for Status purchasers from BestBuy with standard services such as Walk Out Working, Upgrade Checker, Geek Squad Black Tie Protection and Buy Back.

Are you ready to purchase the HTC Status and if so is it the handset’s Facebook integration that has won you over? Let us know with your comments.
