Droid Bionic Looming Release: What we Know and What we Don’t

We’ve been keeping readers up to speed with all the latest news and speculation about the Motorola Droid Bionic smartphone coming to Verizon shortly. However there are so many rumors floating about that it can be difficult to sift out what we know from what we don’t know, so we thought we’d give you a summary.

We’ve posted so many articles now on the Motorola Droid Bionic that yesterday we published a roundup of all the latest rumors and release date news and insight so do check out that post at the link if you’re interested in much more detail. So what do we know for sure about the Droid Bionic that was delayed following ‘enhancements.’? One thing we DO know is that it will be released this summer and Motorola has confirmed that in a recent tweet. Of course we don’t yet have a firm date for release although leaked info suggests the end of this month or early August.

Over on Gotta Be Mobile, Adam Mills reminds us of 5 more things that we know for certain, firstly that 4G LTE capability. This one is a dead cert as Verizon has advertised it and we recently told how one of the reasons why the Droid Bionic should be worth waiting for is that the Verizon LTE network has been found to be the fastest. A dual-core processor is also a cert although there’s some doubt as to whether it will be an NVIDIA Tegra 2 or a Texas Instruments OMAP4. We recently told how the OMAP 4 platform had received certification for Netflix HD so if the OMAP4 comes to the Bionic that will surely please a lot of people.

The Bionic will also have two cameras as with most recently released and upcoming handsets but it’s not yet known if it will be capable of 1080p video capture. We also mentioned that the Droid Bionic would definitely have an HDMI port for Mirror Mode which really will be a handy addition. The bad news that is also certain is that the Bionic has missed the July 7 deadline for release, along with the Samsung Galaxy S2 and iPhone 5, the date that Verizon axed its unlimited data plans for new customers. This will be a big blow for many, especially those who hung on waiting for the Bionic to launch but the fact that the Droid Bionic seems to offer so much will no doubt mean it will realize plenty of sales.

There are also many specs and features that are not yet known plus no confirmation of pricing yet and additionally we don’t know whether the Bionic will have an unlocked bootloader or not, but from what we’ve seen so far this certainly seems like a handset worth considering as your next smartphone purchase. We’d like to hear your thoughts on this so send us your comments and let us know, are you waiting for the Bionic?
