iPhone 5 – No 16GB Storage Rumor? Step Forward iPhone 4S

The Apple iPhone 5 continues to be the subject on everyone’s lips and as we get closer to release the rumor mill is grinding even more than usual. We’ve recently given you carrier news and also rumors of a slimmer lighter design but this latest snippet is about iPhone 5 storage and the possibility that the 16GB option may be abandoned. It could be that the much-rumored iPhone 4S may instead be the 16GB option.

Way back in March we spoke about iPhone 5 storage and whether it would be increased and today’s news suggests that could be a possibility. The current iPhone, the iPhone 4, comes in 16 or 32GB variants but most of us have heard the rumors of a cheaper iPhone 4S to release at the same time as the iPhone 5. Over on Gizmo Crunch, Christopher Hudson writes about the possibility that the 16GB option might be purely for the iPhone 4S. He tells of a Beatweek report whereby it seems that Verizon and AT&T are both to slice the price of the 16GB iPhone 4 model by as much as 25% before the launch of the iPhone 5. Reductions such as this would usually imply that once the next iPhone comes out, the model that’s been slashed in price (iPhone 4 16GB) would be discontinued. It’s noted that no such price reductions are planned for the current iPhone 4 32GB option.

It seems that Apple may be planning to drop the iPhone 4 16GB model then. Bear with me as this is where it gets a little complicated. When the iPhone 4 16GB version came out, the equivalent version of the iPhone 3GS was cut to $49.99 on contract. Gizmo Crunch points out that if the same was to happen on the iPhone 5 the current iPhone 4 (16GB) would probably be cut to a similar price but that doesn’t leave much of a gap for the supposed iPhone 4S. However if the iPhone 4 16GB is no longer around, this leaves a space for the iPhone 4S to replace it as a cheaper 16GB option to a 32GB iPhone 5.

In summary then this could mean no iPhone 4 16GB version, a new iPhone 4S as the 16GB option and an iPhone 5 with 32GB option or higher. It’s certainly a theory that seems to make sense although of course it could just be that there are vast amounts of the 16GB iPhone 4 that need shifting before the arrival of the next iPhone but this would seem unlikely. We’d like to hear your thoughts on this latest iPhone theory. Would you welcome an iPhone 4S as a cheaper 16GB option? Would you like to see an iPhone 5 with 32GB as the standard option and maybe even a higher variant? Let us know by sending us your comments.

To much speculation if you ask me. Let’s just wait and see what Apple brings us.

I am planning to switch from the Blackberry to the Iphone. Should I buy the Iphone 4 16 gb now at $199.00? When do you think the price cut will be for the Iphone 4 before the Iphone 5 is released? Will it only be 25%, if so, I’d rather just get the phone now and not wait…
