U.S. Galaxy S II (S2) Waiting Game: Droid 3 Releases Before

Its fair to say that Samsung’s Galaxy S II (S2) smartphone has caused quite a stir within the mobile phone market, its already claimed a huge percentage of sales in countries such as Korea, the UK, Australia, Hong Kong and so on. One country yet to see it in all its glory is America, although news has filtered through that three Canadian retailers are hoping to get their hands on it fairly soon.

Whilst consumers wait for the Galaxy S II to make its entrance, other phone manufacturers are edging past which could or could not have dire consequences for Samsung’s offering.

One such handset to be released on the 14th July is Motorola’s Droid 3. Ok, so it might not have the same massive appeal as its forthcoming brother the Droid Bionic or even Apple’s iPhone 5/4S, but its worth noting its specifications.

Just yesterday the news finally came in that the Droid 3 on Verizon will be coming on the above date. In the past we have taken a brief look at the Galaxy S II alongside the Droid 3 but it wasn’t really a fair competition, information on the Droid 3 specs was limited, but now we can openly say that its in the running.

It will include a 1GHz dual-core processor (slightly smaller than Samsung’s), a 4-inch qHD display compared to the Galaxy S II’s 4.3-inch Super Amoled Plus, Android 2.3 Gingerbread, same 8MP rear camera and front-facing for video chat, WiFi, Bluetooth, the Droid 3 may win in terms of its new 5-row Qwerty keyboard but may lose out on no 4G LTE connectivity.

If price really is the deciding factor, this is difficult to gauge with no concrete Galaxy S II news, but as a stand-alone for the Droid 3, you will be looking in the region of $459.99 or $199.99 on a new two-year tiered Verizon plan, something of which was introduced yesterday (July 7th).

Check out some of our previous articles in which we have given you news of Galaxy S II UK retailers, accessories, comparisons, speed tests, hands-on, expert reviews and the list goes on.

Are you a little swayed by the Motorola Droid 3, or happy to wait for the Galaxy S II U.S. release, which to be honest may be a while off?

The Fedex truck just delivered my Droid 3. This is a damn good looking phone. the keyboard is EXCELLENT even better than my previous favorite keyboard that is on the epic 4G. The phone has Gingerbread 2.3.4 from Motorola right out of the box. GREAT JOB MOTO. The Droid 3 Quadrant benchmark came in about 2350, 58.3 FPS on Neocore, and is right with the Galaxy S2 on Smartbench 2011. If you like Qwerty keyboards this thing is a friggin’ beast.
