Sony Ericsson’s Xperia Arc Unlocked: Hits AT&T

Smartphones are a common thing that we talk about at OSM, we report on the different rumors that circulate as well as the official announcements that come from each of the different manufacturers. Now we have a little bit more news about Sony Ericsson’s Xperia Arc, it’s hitting AT&T and it’s unlocked.

This is a decent device that Sony has made has been looming since it was first spotted back in January at CES 2011, since then we have seen it appearing here there and everywhere in different videos and being compared to various handsets. Following that we spotted pre-order pages for both ThreeUK and Vodafone UK.

Engadget has added a report to their website saying that the Xperia Arc is one of the best handsets they have seen. Unlike its competitor the Samsung Galaxy S II, it has now appeared in the US and it’s unlocked with AT&T compatibility. Not only that but it sports some pretty impressive specifications that will make it a real contender.

It has a massive 4.2-inch reality display, 512MB of RAM and perhaps the most impressive thing being an 8 megapixel camera. For me this says that Sony Ericsson is getting back to what they did best with the Cybershot range, a decent camera with nice functionality and then a great camera for those perfect picture moments.

From checking out the official Sony page about the Android Gingerbread device, it’s already started shipping for $600. There are some really interesting features that you can expect to see from this device, take the screen for example. They say on the Sony page that it’s super-wide and supports multi-touch and is powered by Sony’s Mobile BRAVIA Engine technology, apparently this will make your videos and photos more vivid making them easier to view.

Will this be one of the top selling devices? Only time will tell, personally I think they face massive competition from the big boys like Apple with the iPhone, Samsung with the Galaxy S II and of course HTC with their abundance of different devices.

This brings us back to the UK sales charts from a month or so ago, the Samsung Galaxy S II overtook the iPhone 4 as the best seller for the month. What was also revealed was that HTC had 5 out of the top 10 for the month in their name! That’s pretty impressive stuff from the manufacturers of the year and hopefully they can keep going.
