2.3 HTC Droid Incredible 2 Update: Gingerbread Very Soon

Here at OSM we like to keep our readers informed not only about all the new smartphones but also updates for existing handsets. We’ve recently given you news on Android 2.3 Gingerbread updates for the HTC EVO 4G, HTC Desire, Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 and Motorola Atrix 4G among others and today we have good news for HTC Droid Incredible 2 owners.

It seems that the Android 2.3 Gingerbread update for the Droid Incredible 2 is ready and waiting to go and may start rolling out next week. Verizon’s support pages now list details of the update, which should really improve the handset’s stability and performance. This is an update that will make your old operating system seem very dated and was brought to our attention by Kellex over on Droid Life. There’s a caution that as the update is 116MB you would do well to be near a WiFi network and have a full charge before updating.

The software update is 2.18.605.4 and also includes improvements to email and messaging, resolved Hotmail sync and better device connectivity when roaming on global GSM/UMTS networks. Device feature enhancements include a new Download Manager App, improved Word Selection and Copy functionality, reduced device resets and lockups because of better stability, and browser bookmarks now including the NYTimes website. The update will also bring a Wireless Charging UI and it also looks as though a new docking station is coming as the update also includes a Desktop Dock App.

Another device feature pertains to App and Power Management whereby a “Running” tab has been added, which will show all active applications and also how much storage and memory is being used by each application. If you want to find out more about the software update head to this Verizon Support page where you will find links in PDF format for details of the benefits and also software update instructions. Also an article over on Android Police tells about the update and also points out that the fact that the support page is up and running is usually a good pointer that it’s coming soon. Android Police also shows some exclusive images of the OTA in action so check it out at the link if you want to see more.
