Sony Ericsson Xperia Ray: Pre-order From Play – Price…£350

It would seem that we are about to get a new contender in the smartphone world and it’s one that we have heard of before. The Sony Ericsson Xperia Ray is now up for pre-order from at a price of £350! We are wondering how well it can compete with the others that are already there and on their way.

Sony has certainly stepped up their game after pretty much being absent from the market, out of the way of the competition. This comes off the back of the PlayStation certified device that they currently have in the market called the Xperia Play, that smartphone can play Android games as well as some of the original PlayStation games on the move.

Releasing a new smartphone in the market right now is a bold move from Sony Ericsson as the competition hasn’t been this fierce for a while. If you were to check out the UK monthly sales charts then you will see that the top two are the Apple iPhone 4 and the Samsung Galaxy S II, the surprise package in that same chart is HTC who have 5 out of the top 10 sales in their name with different devices.

They have been kind enough at to list the full specifications of the device and add to what we already knew, so let’s just run through them so we know them all. You can expect to see a 3.3-inch toughened mineral glass reality capacitive touchscreen display running at 854×480, a 1GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon processor and 512MB of RAM. The smartphone also has 300MB of integrated storage, an 8 megapixel Exmoor R rear facing camera and of course Android Gingerbread 2.3 as the operating system.

It certainly looks like Sony Ericsson is getting back to what they were good at and that is manufacturing high quality devices with a good camera on them. If you think back to the Cybershot days, they were realistically competing in the market. Play has this bad boy up for £349.99 with a release date of August 15th so keep an eye out for it around that time. Still no word of the other Xperia device (Xperia Active) that this one was originally sighted with but we will undoubtedly hear more in the next few weeks.
