iPhone 5 Nearing Launch: Places 15 Million Pegatron Order

For some, rumors of the iPhone 5 with its “what-if” specs, carriers, name and so on have been a little boring, others just can’t get enough of the speculation. Weeks of waiting to see the new device have now turned into months, and many of you were disappointed when it didn’t make an appearance at Apple’s recent WWDC event.

Just recently we brought you news surrounding a three way pricing option for the new iPhone 5 and another rival handset, that of the Hercules due to be released in August. This could blow the Apple phone completely out of the water with a 4.5-inch Super Amoled Plus display, 1.5GHz dual-core processor and Near Field Communication (NFC) inclusion.

Today with a release still pegged for the month of September, AppleInsider via Digitimes have spoken about a report, which has claimed that parts manufacturer “Pegatron” have taken on a massive Apple order of 15 million units of the iPhone 5, with added content saying that the next-generation smartphone is coming “soon” and shipping will begin in “September.”

To some, the news may come as a complete surprise, as in the past Foxconn, Apple’s partner in crime, has supplied the parts for the iPhone, so why Pegatron? At the beginning of the year, we gave you news that Apple had enlisted the help of Pegatron with some 10 million iPhone units rumored to be made. In relation to other Apple devices such as the MacBook and iPad, Pegatron are yet to convince Apple, this purely comes down to how much revenue both Foxconn and Pegatron managed to pull in last year, figures indicate that Foxconn grabbed $59.3 billion in revenue compared to Pegatron’s $18.4 billion.

It seems the latter had been helped along with CDMA iPhone 4 orders on Verizon being pushed along, this enabled Pegatron to expand their production line and take on new employees, although as AppleInsider stated, sales of the device were down in the first quarter, disappointing news for Pegatron.

If there is any truth in today’s news, then a September launch is looking more and more likely. Give us your thoughts on a new iPhone 5 release, have you been patiently waiting to see it? Do you think that Apple will have to bring out something pretty spectacular to rival handsets from Samsung, HTC and Motorola?
