HP TouchPad: New 64GB Upgraded White Version Coming

It was just a matter of days ago, that we reported on HP’s TouchPad tablet device arriving on UK shores. We gave you an idea of retailers stocking the tablet plus an indication of prices and release dates. Now the news has moved on since then, with reports of a possible upgraded version on its way.

Already stated to be a real contender against Apple’s iPad 2, Motorola’s Xoom and BlackBerry’s PlayBook, here at OSM, we have brought you news about the TouchPad’s specs, comparisons made with others, roundup of what the experts have said and so on. So if launched, what can we expect to see from an upgraded version?

According to reghardware.com, the first difference to be noted, is that the HP TouchPad with WebOS, will be upped to include 64GB of storage, currently the TouchPad is only available in the 16 and 32GB models. The existing processor is rumored to change from a 1.2GHz dual-core to a hefty 1.5GHz.

Along with this, the newer version will incorporate 4G, this will a big alternative on the U.S. buying market where currently there is just a WiFi-only model. Fans of the upgraded TouchPad will have the option to buy a white device which is hoped to stir up competition with Apple’s iPad 2. In relation to its release, a concrete date is yet to be announced, but of course when we find out more, we will let you know, T3 have reported that the UK will see its entrance sometime later this year. Prices have also been safeguarded but are rumored to start from approximately £399.

To refresh you with the current TouchPad’s specs, it will include a 9.7-inch display, 1GB of RAM, Near Field Communication (NFC), 1.3MP front-facing camera for video chat, WebOS making the TouchPad the first device to deliver the feature and of course the 1.2GHz dual-core processor.

After the refreshed TouchPad, HP are hoping to announce two more devices, that of the Pre-3 and HP Opal smartphones. Information on these are still a little vague. As you can see comedian Russell Brand is giving his thoughts on the new device, with a bold statement at the end of which he says the new HP works like “nothing else.”
