Galaxy S2 (S II) and iPhone 5 Absence: HTC Fill the Void

We’ve written many articles recently about the Apple iPhone 5 and the Samsung Galaxy S2 (S II) smartphones and we know that many of our readers are waiting for these handsets. Now it seems that the absence so far of either of these anticipated handsets will benefit another major smartphone manufacturer, HTC, as some of its handsets are likely to fill the void.

The latest rumored release date for the iPhone 5 is October and although the Galaxy S2 US release has been rumored for July (see US release roundup here), it’s rather strange that we’ve not heard anything firm from Samsung or any of the major carriers it will be carried on yet. Only yesterday we told how the fact that there has still been no Galaxy S2 US release means it may well be in danger of missing the boat, especially bearing in mind that if it was already available in the US we’re pretty sure it would have been huge. For example we’ve recently told of sales records and the fact that in the UK where it has already been released it has topped the smartphone rankings for the last two months.

We also told how the Galaxy S2 and iPhone 5 were in danger of losing out on sales as people were getting tired of waiting and so may instead opt for another smartphone. This is where HTC could really do some damage to future sales for the S2 and iPhone 5 as the company has 3 handsets that are pretty impressive that are either recently out or due very soon. We’ve reported many times on all of these three HTC phones, the HTC Sensation, HTC EVO 3D and T-Mobile’s myTouch 4G Slide, also made by HTC. All of these have notable specs and features and consumers could do a lot worse than to opt for any of these impressive handsets, which all run on Android 2.3, Gingerbread.

The HTC Sensation is already available on T-Mobile. The EVO 3D is now available on Sprint with a T-Mobile version coming later, while the myTouch 4G Slide is for T-Mobile and rumored to be coming this month. If you want to see a feature on all of the three handsets above then Elias Samuel over on International Business Times compares the three. We’ve also informed readers in the last few days about the HTC Eternity although this one is set for a much later release sometime in the fall and will be a Windows Phone 7 Mango handset.

It’s also worth remembering that Motorola also have two more very impressive handsets due out, the Droid 3 on direct fill release from July 7 and retail stores from July 14 and the Droid Bionic which looks at long last to be on its way. It’s certainly clear though that the non-appearance of the Galaxy S2 and also the iPhone 5 so far will benefit HTC who continue to release excellent devices. Are you waiting for the Galaxy S2 or iPhone 5? Are you tempted to plump for an HTC device instead to fill the breach? Let us know with your comments.

I somehow get the feeling that HTC could have been really big if they had marketed themselves aggressively. They are very low profile when it comes to marketing..does anybody know why?
