Galaxy S II (S2) vs Droid Bionic vs HTC Eternity: Stakes High

The battle for smartphone supremacy still rages on and just this morning we gave you another handset to join the ever expanding list, that of the new Samsung Hercules. Storming the world already is the hugely popular Samsung Galaxy S II, and in the next 2 to 3 months, we should be seeing the Motorola Droid Bionic and Photon 4G, Apple’s iPhone 5, HTC myTouch slide 4G, Nokia N9 and now a new HTC Eternity.

Just a matter of days ago, Debbie here at OSM brought you some snippets of information in relation to the new Eternity, and today we wanted to put it side by side with the Galaxy S II.

As well as the new Samsung Hercules rumored to be the next big smartphone with a 1.5GHz dual-core processor, 8MP camera and some pretty impressive 24 HSDPA capability with fast speeds of 42Mbps, the Eternity is definitely a device not to be snubbed at.

In terms of size as reported, the new HTC will be slightly bigger than that of the Galaxy S II, Motorola Droid Bionic and Photon 4G but smaller than the new Samsung Infuse 4G.

If we take the time to compare screen sizes, then the Eternity knocks off its rivals (apart from the Dell Streak) with a massive 4.7-inch SC-LCD capacitive touchscreen. To some the display may be a little hefty compared to many with a 4.3-inch, enhanced Bionic with its 4.5-inch or even talk of the iPhone 5 with its rumored 3.7-inch.

On board memory may be a big deciding factor for you, the Eternity will possibly include 512MB RAM, but may lack microSD support to expand up to 32GB, it will incorporate a 8MP rear camera equalling that of the HTC Sensation, Galaxy S II and Bionic, 720p video recording and a 1.3MP to the front, 1.5GHz single-core processor which may be its letdown in comparison to others with dual-core CPU’s.

The Eternity averages with a 1,650mAh battery compared to rivals with 1700-1930mAh and possible inclusion of Microsoft Windows Phone 7 (Mango) which would give a wider accessibility to social networking feeds such as Twitter and Facebook.

We know that the Galaxy S II has already released in many countries with the exception of the U.S. An Eternity release date is pointing to the month of September although a price is yet to be disclosed.

Give us your thoughts on the new HTC Eternity? Has it done enough to outdo the Galaxy S II or Droid Bionic?
