Samsung Galaxy S2 vs Conquer 4G on Sprint: More Choice

Over the last couple of months the Samsung Galaxy S2 (S II) has been the phone that many have been talking about and we know how many of you are waiting for the U.S. release (roundup here), expected on all major carriers. However it seems another Samsung smartphone is heading to Sprint called the Conquer 4G to give consumers a bit more choice. Let’s take a look then at the Galaxy S2 vs. the Conquer 4G.

We’ve published numerous comparisons with other phones now for the Galaxy S2, including the Motorola Droid Bionic, HTC Sensation, HTC EVO 3D, Nexus 4G (now thought to be the Google Nexus Prime) and more and so far it’s been hard to find anything to match up to the Galaxy S2. The Galaxy S2 will be known as the Within when it comes to Sprint but although we reckon 4G connectivity for this handset is likely, nothing has been confirmed on this yet. Otherwise though, the specs for the Galaxy S2 are so impressive that we would be disappointed if it doesn’t appear as a 4G-capable handset. We’re not even going to pretend that the Conquer 4G has got equally as good specs as the Galaxy S2 but as the name suggests, it will definitely have that 4G capability.

A specs rundown for the Galaxy S2 shows it runs on the most current Android OS, 2.3 Gingerbread, has a 1.2GHz dual-core processor, a 4.3-inch Super AMOLED Plus display (very highly praised in our review roundup) and an 8-megapixel camera with 1080p video capture plus a front-facer. Steve Taylor over on GizmoCrunch gives us the gen on the Samsung Conquer 4G. Specs and features include Android 2.3 Gingerbread again (although the Galaxy S2 also has the TouchWiz UI), a 3.5-inch HVGA capacitive touchscreen, 1GHz processor, 3.2-megapixel rear camera and also a front-facer. There’s also course its 4G WiMAX radio. As you can see then the Galaxy S2 really has nothing to worry about if it comes down to a purely specs competition but the Conquer is a decent enough mid-level device.

There’s no pricing available yet for either the Galaxy S2 or the Conquer 4G but of course the Conquer 4G is very likely to be a more economical choice. The GizmoCrunch article also contains some Samsung blurb about the Conquer 4G which makes it sound pretty good but we note that the source link to the Samsung website now comes up as ‘page not found.’ Maybe the product information was posted online a bit too early and pulled? Another article over on Phandroid also has a source link to Samsung and that also now shows as ‘page not found.’ There’s no word yet on availability for the Conquer 4G, which briefly showed as ‘upcoming’ and the Galaxy S2 is rumored to arrive on Sprint next month although that’s not yet confirmed.

You may also be interested in our article from yesterday where we spoke about the huge success of the Galaxy S2 in the UK where it has already seen a release and rates as the best current smartphone. It will certainly be interesting then to see which device gets the first release and whether the Galaxy S2 on Sprint will have that 4G capability. Also of course pricing and personal preference of design will be a deciding factor. We’d like to hear your thoughts on this so let us have your comments.
