Samsung Galaxy S2 Still Best Smartphone: Keeping Others at Bay

The success of the Samsung Galaxy S2 Android smartphone has been nothing short of phenomenal. Although we have yet to see the U.S. release of this handset, sales in regions where it has been launched have been extremely high. Today we hear that the success of the Galaxy S2 or S II is keeping other smartphone devices at bay.

We told how the phone had broken sales records in Korea and how the Galaxy S2 would help Samsung overtake Nokia as the largest smartphone manufacturer. Now new data from uSwitch tells how the Galaxy S2 is still holding its position at the top in UK sales and popularity for June. Last month OSM’s Tim Ollason told how the Galaxy S2 had overtaken the Apple iPhone 4 in the same chart and now it has retained its place, showing this is no one minute wonder. The iPhone 4 meanwhile has held on to its second position.

An article over on Mobile Magazine points out that HTC still controls the top ten of the chart with 6 of its handsets on the list. The HTC Sensation for instance has risen in position again after recent price cuts. In fact 80% of the top ten smartphones are now Androids. Ernest Doku, uSwitch technology expert said, “The powerful and flexible Samsung Galaxy S II remains on top as networks and retailers continue to offer a number of strong mobile deals.” Doku added that Samsung could not afford to rest on its laurels though, with competition coming from 3D handsets such as the HTC EVO 3D and LG Optimus 3D and also the threat from the iPhone 5 due in the next few months.
