Monster Job Search Functionality Spreads to Facebook – BeKnown

Employment site Monster is spreading its job search functionality to Facebook with an app called BeKnown, which is due to go live today (Monday). The app will allow users to set up professional networks and import data to Facebook and will also be targeted at recruiters.

Global vice president of product for Monster, Matthew Mund, explained the move by saying most people are already Facebook users and said, “This is the path of least resistance. You can manage your professional identity and your social identity in one place,” according to Todd Wasserman over on Mashable. It’s hoped that BeKnown will differ from other similar offerings, with badges for example, similar to Foursquare’s for completing professional targets. Another plus point is that users will be able to gain endorsements as well as follow companies, in a similar way to LinkedIn, the professional networking site.

At present Monster achieves around 38 million unique visitors per month but the recession has certainly affected the company with net sales dropping by 11% and stock price falling by 8.9%. In the first quarter though, Monster seems to be recovering with a 23% rise in revenues. It may well face a struggle to get BeKnown established though with professional networks such as LinkedIn now having over 100 million users and BranchOut which has over 800,000 users already.

Are you a professional and are you willing to try out a new networking app on Facebook? Maybe you wonder why you’d bother when networks such as LinkedIn already exist? Let us know with your comments.
