Apple iPhone 5 Release Quarter 3: New Report Backs Up

The Apple iPhone 5 continues to be the smartphone that’s most speculated about at the moment (although yesterday we even heard a rumor about the iPhone 6), especially since the rumors of a September release have received more credence recently. Today we have news that seems to further back up an iPhone 5 release in Quarter 3 from an analyst’s report that was issued yesterday.

The iPhone 5 is set for smash sales figures and the anticipation over its release is almost reaching fever pitch so the new report that seems to support the fall release rumors will be welcome news to many. Katy Huberty, analyst with Morgan Stanley issued the report following meetings in Taiwan last week, saying that production of the iPhone 5 will begin in summer ahead of a Q3 release. Huberty predicts a late Q3 release, which ties in with our previous reports of a likely September launch date.

According to Josh Ong over on Apple Insider, Huberty wrote in the report, “Apple’s next iPhone will begin production in mid to late August and ramp aggressively into the calendar fourth quarter.” Huberty also mentioned the likelihood of cheaper iPhones and also a new Apple TV set coming up, both of which have been rumored before. Huberty reported that iPhone production in 2012 will step up “on the back of new products and potentially lower price points,” and added, “We also believe Apple is in the early design stages for a TV, which could add $19 billion and $4.50 of annual revenue and EPS longer-term.”

An article over on International Business Times about this latest report reminds us that although this does appear to back up the current rumors of a fall release for the iPhone 5, there are still some observers who think a 2012 release is more likely. However our feeling is that a fall release for the next iPhone is very much more likely, in time for the holiday season. Also there are so many new impressive Android smartphones due out, such as the US version of the Samsung Galaxy S2 and the Motorola Droid Bionic, that Apple could lose out on sales if they don’t get the iPhone 5 out sooner than later.

We’d like to hear your thoughts on this. Are you waiting for the iPhone 5? If it is much longer than September might you be tempted by one of the notable Android smartphones coming to the market soon? Let us know with your comments.

I think only time will tell how this will pan out for Apple. If Motorals and Samsung are going to come out with great new Android phones, Apple has to be the first to release their new model. If the android handsets come out before Apple, there will be a few million who will jump the gun and buy the Android opposed to waiting for the iphone 5.

there has been no official word on the iphone 5. it will be nice if Apple gives some sort of an hint. I think they owe it to their customers too. There are so many people out there who are in two minds about renewing their iphone 4g contract or just waiting for the iphone 5
