Ricoh PX Camera: Everything Proof, Specs, Price & Release

There are certain situations where a camera would be ideal, but you are limited from using this sometimes fragile device. In the past we have had the same problems with mobile phones which have been rectified by the introduction of “proof ” handsets. These toughened phones are protected from water spray, dust and scratches, but wouldn’t this be nice to have with your camera?

For those that can understand this predicament, please be upstanding and welcome the Ricoh PX. Designed to protect against varying levels of shock, water and dust penetration, this digital compact camera still manages a 5.0x wide-angle and telephoto optical zoom.

Other features as Ubergizmo pointed out, include 16MP CCD Sensor with high quality pictures coming from a Smooth Imaging Engine IV, 2.7-inch LCD display, benefit of shooting HD movies, protection from dropping from 1.5 meters with a JIS/IEC rating, bringing with it anti-reflective material allowing it to be seen under vibrant lighting, with peace of mind that the Ricoh can withstand shock and water confrontation.

In terms of price the new PX range will retail at $299, come in five crisp colors and be released at the end of this month.

What are your thoughts on the new Ricoh PX? Have you ever been in a situation where you have wanted a camera to withstand different conditions?
