Tumblr Dashboard New Look: Mixed Reactions

If you’re a Tumblr user you may have read two of our recent stories on Tumblr, one where we pointed out that it was the top riser of social networks in a recent infographic and then more recently when we informed you about a new Tumblr share button. We have news today of a Tumblr dashboard new look, which is receiving rather mixed reactions.

The update is fairly minor and not even easy to spot at first if you’re not a regular user but not all Tumblr users are impressed, as is often the case when a favorite social network makes some changes. Christina Warren over on Mashable, sourced from @caustikgrip, reports that the main changes occur when switching between blogs and that there are alterations to what is shown in the sidebar.

Peter Vidani, lead designer at Tumblr, seems pretty happy though, and tweeted that he was “positively thrilled to launch the new Tumblr dashboard.” However some Tumblr users are expressing their displeasure through their Tumblr accounts. Of course when the look of a popular site changes it always seems odd at first but from personal experience I’d say that you pretty soon get used to it. I can hardly recall what Twitter looked like before its new look for example but when it arrived I know I wasn’t keen on it.

We’d like to know what you think of the Tumblr dashboard changes. Are you a regular Tumblr user and do you think the dashboard is improved by the new look or are you really unhappy about the redesign? Let us know with your comments.

I absolutely hate it. I honestly think it would be fine if they didn’t move the messages, queue, follower, and draft links to a totally different page. It’s like being on Facebook and not knowing if you have any new notifications or messages unless you go to a random page to find out.
