HP TouchPad Tablet Release and Price: July 1 for webOS Tablet

Back in February we told you about the HP TouchPad webOS tablet and then more recently told of an expected release in June. Last month we then informed you of price details from Walmart and then we also reported how HP thinks its TouchPad could annihilate the Apple iPad 2 competition, which was rather throwing down the gauntlet. We now have official news at last that the HP TouchPad will see a U.S. release on July 1 and we also have price details.

As a refresher we’ll give you a brief rundown on specs and features. The TouchPad has a 1.2GHz dual-core processor, a 9.7-inch XGA display, 1GB of RAM and 16 or 32GB storage, with a 1.3-megapixel camera. It also has NFC (near-field communication) capability and this new mobile payment method built-in will no doubt please many. According to Zach Epstein over on BGR the 16GB TouchPad will be priced at $499.99 while the 32GB comes in at $599.99.

There’s more news too as it seems a 3G TouchPad will be coming to AT&T in the summer although there’s no word on price for that yet. If you want to pre-order the Wi-Fi only versions you can do so from June 19 in the North America and Europe. It’s the first webOS tablet from HP and the company also states that the TouchPad will also be released in the U.K., Ireland, France and Germany, a few days after the launch in the U.S and Canada will see a release in mid-July, with other countries to come later.

As someone once said: “If HP were running a sushi bar, they’d call their product “cold, dead fish”.
