Korea’s Got Talent Orphan Singer: Inspiring Video Goes Viral

Here at OSM we like to bring you news on videos that have gone viral and some recent examples include a new epic meal times, a shampoo prank and teaser clips for The Dark Knight Rises. Today we heard about a YouTube video from TV show Korea’s Got Talent, featuring a young male singer, which has gathered over 1.6 million hits in just a few days.

So popular has the singer become that he is being dubbed the new Susan Boyle. The 22-year-old singer, Sung-bong Choi certainly has an inspiring story as is so often the case on these types of show. Orphaned at the age of 5 he told how he has lived alone since, leading the judges on the panel to become quite emotional. A manual worker, Choi told how he had even lived in public toilets saying, “I just want to be like a normal person. I don’t sing that well but when I do sing, I feel like a different person,” according to Sky News. You can see the YouTube video of his performance below this story.

However it seems that Choi was being modest as he has a strong voice that stunned the studio audience and led to an ovation. One judge called his performance “awesome” and was moved to tears. Needless to say Choi was put through to the next round. Since he reached such massive popularity it has been revealed that Choi did in fact attend a performing arts high school but he stated that the show was informed of this but chose not to broadcast it. Nevertheless that doesn’t take away from his performance and his inspiring story.
