Andy Murray’s Wimbledon “HEAD” Social Media Interaction

Even though some of us may not be aware of it, social media and the way in which it has impacted each and every one of us is on the increase. Online social networking sites such as Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, LinkedIn and so on have become increasingly popular ways of communication, whether its keeping in contact with friends and family, looking for a career, advertising a product and so on.

Today the news is of the world of tennis and British player Andy Murray. Leading a new viral marketing campaign, sports brand “Head” has now produced a short film called “Get Closer” which will be advertised on sites Facebook and YouTube.

As well as the brand being advertised to a much wider audience, tennis fans may be interested to know that they can interact with Murray through the new campaign.

Basically as you see from the embedded video clip below, Murray wakes up for breakfast, receives a new package with the wording HEAD on it (which coincidentally is a tennis racket) with the postman “liking” the item. As many of you will know “liking” is a feature on site Facebook.

As thedrum.co.uk reported, those who go over to the campaign’s Facebook page here, will be met with a “like.” Those who click on this, will benefit from more exclusive content, tweets from Murray and possible prizes. What we liked, is that fans will be able to send in their messages from which Murray will choose his favorites. The messages will then be transferred onto Murray’s tennis racket bag for all to see.

In a brief statement from CEO of HEAD N.V. “Johan Eliasch” said, “Using digital and social media in HEAD’s brand communication, we want to bring our customers and our athletes closer together in an emotional and fun way. We are proud to be partnering with Andy on such a unique campaign during the most prestigious tournament in the tennis calendar.”

What are your thoughts on social media being used in this way? Will you be sending Andy a message? Let us know.
