WWDC 2011 Bombshell for BBM: iMessages Coming To iOS 5.0

The last few days have been amazing, we previously asked you which of the two major events you would be attending between WWDC and E3 2011 and so far neither has majorly disappointed. Some people were still clinging on for a new iPhone but Apple stuck to their guns when they said it was a software only event.

So far in my opinion Microsoft has been the best at E3 but of course we do have Nintendo to come and the expected showcasing of their all new console currently known as Project Café. There’s something that we wanted to highlight from WWDC 2011 and it’s the bombshell for BBM and that’s iMessages that’s coming to iOS 5.0.

One of the big selling points for RIM BlackBerry users is the use of their BlackBerry messenger which is basically free texting between BlackBerry devices. Well iMessages is the same concept except it’s only between iOS users. We first learned about these features through Engadget’s live blog but now their author Jacob Shulman has added an article talking about it.

Get ready to be able to send photos, videos, contacts and of course text messages using iMessages. Not only that but group chatting is also something that’s been integrated into this all new system. The system works over both WiFi and 3G and has delivery and read confirmation. Pretty impressive stuff and if you missed any of the WWDC 2011 keynote then you can catch up with it on this link.

What do you think of the new iMessages from Apple for the new iOS 5.0? Will this kill off BlackBerry users or will we all keep on using Whatsapp? Let us know in the comments section below.
