Toshiba Thrive Android Tablet Release: Pre-Orders June 13

Only a few days ago we gave you some information on the Toshiba Thrive tablet device, a tablet anticipated to rival the Apple iPad 2 but at a lower cost. We told how the 10.1-inch tablet running on the Android 3.1 Honeycomb OS was expected to hit the U.S in July and we now have more details for you and price confirmation.

As a short recap we’ll remind you that the Thrive will also feature an NVIDIA Tegra 2 dual-core processor and a 5-megapixel rear camera with 2-megapixel front-facer. Jerry Hildenbrand over on Android Central reports more on the Thrive from a Toshiba press conference and we now also know that the display has a 1280 x 800 resolution with Toshiba’s resolution plus software with a full size SD card and USB ports.

You can place pre-orders for the Thrive from June 13 for shipping between the beginning and middle of July from many retail stores. The price of $429 was confirmed for the entry level 8GB version, which we feel is a competitive price. Some accessories will also be available such as a basic docking station at $39.99 or a deluxe version with USB and HDMI ports at $59.99. A user replaceable battery will set you back $89.99 while a battery cover is $19.99 with 5 color options.
