Nintendo 3DS: Steps Back In Time With Mario Kart & More

As we reported earlier Sony’s E3 introduction to their latest generation of PlayStation portable devices, is set to offer up a massive attack on Nintendo’s 3DS. We gave a brief comparison of specs between the Sony PS Vita and Nintendo’s latest 3D console.

Its worth noting the Sony isn’t the only chaser of the Nintendo crown, Apple is also seen as a threat with their iPod Touch, iPad and iPhone range closing in on the portable gaming market.

So what can Nintendo do to challenge the newcomers onslaught? How about call on its previous big game titles that have followed the company’s range of consoles through the years. As Venture Beat state, after the initial wave of 3DS games hit the shelves in March, Nintendo revealed at the Los Angeles show that a number of re-worked favorites will soon be joining them.

First up, if you’re going to talk about Nintendo then in the same sentence “Mario” will be mentioned, so it is no surprise that Mario Kart will be introduced with 3D inclusion some time in autumn. Sticking with the Italian brothers, Super Mario 3D will also find its way on to 3DS screens by the end of the year.

Also on the list, are titles such as the Legend of Zelda which as Gamer UK mentioned celebrated its 25th anniversary at E3. With this, Ocarina of Time should be available around the middle of this month, and Starfox 64 3D which is likely to arrive sometime in September. Kid Icarus Uprising and Luigi’s Mansion 2 are also in the pipeline for release this year.

In addition to the available games is Nintendo’s introduction of their downloadable games store designed for the 3DS, this will come as part of a system update due soon. Tell us if you think that Nintendo’s idea to break out the big name titles in 3D will help stave off the advances of its closest rivals?
