No Apple iPhone 5 or 4S at WWDC Keynote: Are You Disappointed?

We have been talking about the next-generation iPhone, the iPhone 5 or as some think it will be titled, the iPhone 4S, for as long as we can remember and recently gave you a rumor roundup where we looked at all the conflicting release reports. We know that many of you were hoping to hear news about the next iPhone at Apple’s WWDC keynote today, but alas the keynote has come and gone and there was no mention of a new iPhone or 4S and we wonder if you are disappointed about this?

We have heard announcements for the new Mac OS X Lion, also Apple’s iCloud services and details of iOS 5 but there were no forthcoming iPhone details. Since our rumor roundup (linked to earlier) we had published more reports on whether there may be a new iPhone announced at WWDC or not. OSM’s Tim Ollason gave a comprehensive report on the iPhone 4S, which it was thought would release this year, with an iPhone 5 next year. We then told how all signs for the next iPhone, whatever it might be called, were for a September release, according to news from an analyst reporting on components for the next iPhone starting production in July.

OSM’s Maddy Rowe then published an interesting piece about how Apple really needed a new iPhone at WWDC 2011, especially as the iPhone 4 is now looking rather dated compared to some of the other new handsets available. However, earlier today we posted details about odds for expectations from WWDC 2011 and alas, no matter how many people might have been wishing to hear about the next iPhone, the odds that we would actually see any details in the keynote today, were very small indeed. In fact our source for that story even doubted the existence of an iPhone 4S as many other tech sites have reported, and felt pretty certain the next iPhone will be the iPhone 5.

So in fact it seems the predictions of no iPhone news were correct. Despite all the information being leaked from Apple that this year’s WWDC would be all about the software, we had in some ways, hoped to be proven wrong and still would love to have seen the next iPhone announced as Steve Jobs’ “one more thing” at the end of the keynote. We’d like to know your thoughts about this. Were you holding on for an announcement of the next iPhone today? Maybe you never expected it to revealed at WWDC? Let us know by sending us your comments.
