RIM BlackBerry PlayBook: Sprint Price & Release Date

The tablet PC market has been doing rather well in recent times especially with the addition of the Android OS for different manufacturers to make use of. Android has become a major competitor for market leaders Apple with the iPad and the iPad 2 but there’s one other device that will hopefully do ok as well.

It’s the BlackBerry PlayBook from RIM and we now know that it’s hitting Sprint as we have a price and release date to tell you about. We learned this information through Engadget’s Donald Melanson who has added a report of his own. At first there was no confirmation but an update to the post sees RIM making it official.

First of all the details were leaked on Sprint’s Marketing Director Gerald Evans’ blog that the WiFi-only model with 16GB of internal storage would be hitting Sprint stores this weekend. So we are looking at Sunday June 5th and a price tag of $499.99.

Unfortunately there’s still no word of the rumored 4G version of the device so we are still looking at waiting a few more months for that bad boy. You can read the official press release from RIM on this link where the specs and features of the device are provided.

Is the BlackBerry PlayBook and Sprint a winning combination for you at that price? Let us know in the comments section below.
