HTC EVO 4G Android Gingerbread Update Now Live

The smartphone market has been ablaze for the last few years really and something great that has come out of it is the Android OS. One of the best things about it is the handsets that were launched a while ago; some of them can actually run the latest versions of the OS which can bring a number of improvements to the device.

One that we reported would be getting the update is the HTC EVO 4G and now the Android Gingerbread update is live! We learned of this through Engadget’s Dana Wollman and now you can download Gingerbread directly to your handset.

The update is available today but it won’t prompt you until Monday June 6th so if you want to go ahead and get it you will need to navigate through the menu to get to check for the update. Once you have got it then you are in for a bit of a treat as there are a few areas of improvement.

One area that they have made a change to for the device is the power management, SMS fixes as well as getting access to Gmail. There were a few emails that we received about this update so thanks to those that informed us.

How do you feel the update went? Are you pleased to be running Gingerbread on your HTC EVO 4G? Let us know in the comments section below.

My stock Evo 4G (not rooted, nothing special) prompted me to download and install the update at about 12:30 PM PDT on Saturday, June 4, 2011. So far, I haven’t noticed any difference in functionality between the old and the new. The update took about 15 minutes, and seemed to go smoothly, except that after the update, it started telling me that I have two voice messages – but I don’t. I cleared the notification (Settings, Call, Clear Voicemail Notifications) and this seems to be OK now.

Does anybody have a list of the changes?
