MyTouch 4G Slide on T-Mobile Revealed: Galaxy S2 Rival?

At the end of April we gave you some details on the myTouch 4G Slide on T-Mobile, which looks to be a pretty impressive Android smartphone with a 1.2GHz dual-core processor and rumors of 3D capability. We also then gave a comparison for the Samsung Galaxy S2 (S II) vs. the myTouch 4G Slide where we said that although the Galaxy S2 is pretty untouchable, the 4G Slide had a lot going for it.

We now have details of a hands-on experience with the handset and some first pictures, whereby a little more has been revealed. As a brief recap the leaked specs we had were a 1.2GHz processor as already mentioned, 4G capability for T-Mobile’s HSPA+ network, 768MB of RAM and a 3.7-inch WVGA LCD display. It will also feature an 8-megapixel rear camera along with a 3-megapixel VGA front-facer.

Now Jonathan S. Geller over on BGR brings more news of the myTouch 4G Slide (aka HTC Doubleshot), after a source managed to take a closer look at the phone and also take some photos. It runs on Android 2.3.4 Gingerbread, which will please a lot of people, along with the latest HTC Sense UI. It was described as running “as smoothly as the HTC Sensation” and it was also noted that it was quicker than the myTouch 4G. What’s more the 8-megapixel camera was confirmed although it seems that rumors of a 3D display were just that, as there’s no 3D display. The release date is set for the first half of July so there’s not too much longer to wait.

Meanwhile Alex Wagner over on Phonedog also reports on the new details and images of the myTouch 4G Slide and notes that the source described the QWERTY keyboard as similar to that on the G2 and if so “we should be in for a treat.” The rumored release date of the first half of July from BGR also matches a date that Phonedog were previously given of July 6 so it looks promising. What are your thoughts on the rather blurry images of the myTouch 4G Slide? Let us know with your comments.
