Apple iPhone 5 (or 4S) Recent Rumor Roundup Including Release

The Apple iPhone 5 continues to be the subject of much discussion, news and speculation and we know that many of you are eager to hear more about when the next-generation iPhone may be released. However there may be a bit longer to wait yet and we thought it would be interesting to give you a recent rumor roundup about the iPhone 5 to keep you going.

We’ve taken a look back at our articles over the last month and will give you some idea of what everybody has been writing about. If you’re interested further in any particular article then just hit the link for our original post to find out more. We’ll give you the mixed rumors about the possible release date of the iPhone 5 first, followed by other news, speculation and insights afterwards.

Looking firstly at release rumors then we told how AT&T had been informed there would be no iPhone 5 for June or July, around the time that most were expecting an iPhone release. We also looked at whether the shortage of materials and labor for the iPad 2 and current iPhone was a reason for the delay of the iPhone 5. Following this we heard news about a November UK release for the next iPhone which seemed to back up the rumors that the iPhone 5 would be appearing later rather than sooner.

However we then heard that shipping of the iPhone 4 was slowing down leading to some speculation that the iPhone 5 might be imminent although after the fire at the Foxconn plant in China, we then told that our hopes had faded for an iPhone release surprise in the summer. Amazingly the next we heard was that there were teasers for a June or July release after all but following that we heard that rumors of a new camera supplier tied in with a fall release.

If you’re not confused enough already, there was recent rumor that the iPhone 5 release may be closer than we thought after reports that UK journalists were being invited to Apple’s WWDC starting June 6, by one of Apple’s iPhone PR teams, although we reckoned not to read too much into that. However the very latest speculation about the release is that an ad was spotted to recruit actors and actresses for an iPhone 5 commercial, although was very quickly pulled, which of course made people think it might be sooner than we thought after all.

In other iPhone news at the beginning of May we asked about a wishlist for the iPhone 5 and the Samsung Galaxy S2 which is has to be said, really is the smartphone of the moment although it has yet to see a US release. Just after that we told how two different iPhone 5 models were being rumored, a Pro and a Normal version. We then told about possible over-the-air updates for the next iPhone, then gave you an article about features we did NOT expect to see for the iPhone 5. We also told how iPhone 5 interest far-outweighed interest for the White iPhone 4 that eventually arrived and then another possible improvement stemming from iOS 5, enhanced Voice Control for the iPhone 5.

We went on to discuss whether NFC (near-field communication) would be included on the iPhone 5 although later heard it wouldn’t be included this time around, and also reported news that the iPhone 5 may actually be called the iPhone 4S and could also be coming to Sprint and T-Mobile, not just AT&T and Verizon. Then we had rumors regarding the new camera and flash expected for the iPhone 5 and following that spoke of possible features for the handset and which ones you were waiting for. We also had news that the Verizon iPhone 5 would be a global handset and then heard about how it might feature curved glass. Next we looked at two credible HTC alternatives to the iPhone 5, the Sensation and the EVO 3D and also heard how the next iPhone could be reduced in size.

We’re nearing the end of our roundup so bear with me. We also discussed whether it would be a better option to purchase the Samsung Galaxy S2 now, or to wait for the iPhone 5 and then told you how a purported iPhone 5 had been spotted in the wild. So that’s it then, our iPhone 5 rumor roundup for the last month. It just goes to show that the rumor mill surrounding the Apple iPhone continues to grind and also shows just how many of us are interested in the latest news and speculation about this iconic handset. What are your thoughts on this? Which rumors do you think are most likely to be credible, and which are not? Let us know with your comments.
