Big Verizon Release Day: 4 Phones Include Droid X2 & Xperia Play

There are some seriously good smartphones hitting the U.S. market around now. Not only are handsets such as the Samsung Galaxy S2 and the HTC Sensation due to be released, but also today is a big release day for Verizon, with four new smartphones being launched on the same day. They are the Motorola Droid X2, the Sony Ericsson Xperia Play, the LG Revolution and the HTC Trophy.

Many of you may have been waiting for a particular one of these handsets so this stands as a reminder that the big day is here. We have previously written about all of these smartphones before including news on release dates, so hit the links if you want to check out any of our previous articles. The first three phones are all Android OS handsets while the HTC Trophy is a Windows Phone OS handset.

The reminder of Verizon’s big launch day came to us from Vlad Savov over on Engadget, sourced from Verizon. As a brief recap we can tell you that the LG Revolution is the only LTE capable handset and it comes with a 4.3-inch display at a price of $249.99 on the usual two-year contract. The Motorola Droid X2 comes in at a price of $199.99 with contract and features a 1GHz dual-core processor. The Xperia Play, otherwise known as the PlayStation Phone, features a slideout gamepad and will set you back $199.99 on contract. Finally the HTC Trophy featuring Xbox LIVE, has a 3.8-inch display and it comes in a bit cheaper at $149.99 with the usual contract.

Zach Epstein over on BGR makes the point though, that although the HTC Trophy is the first Windows Phone to come to the Big Red you might prefer instead to wait for the next-generation Windows Phone handsets that will feature the Mango update.
