Facebook Stats: The Number Of Pages With Profanities

Facebook is the largest of all the social networks boasting more than 500 million users signed up and more than half of them returning daily. The social networking giant has many uses such as connecting friends and family but it has also been hit recently with quite a bit of spam/virus such as the Dislike button that was going around, the 450 free Facebook credits and of course the HCG Diet that’s been circulating.

Now we have some Facebook stats that include the number of pages with profanities courtesy of allfacebook.com’s Jackie Cohen. The research was performed by a company called Reppler over the last two months where they have scanned more than 30,000 Facebook member’s walls to pull in their results.

The stats show that the most common profanity is the “F” word followed by the “S” word and then in third place is the other name for a female dog. They found that 47% of all the scanned pages have a swear word on their wall and of those users 80% of them have at least one post or comment with another abusive word from a friend. Another stat that they revealed is that 56% of posts with abusive language come from a post on a user’s wall from friends.

This is quite interesting in this day and age as many potential employers search social networking sites for potential candidates before hiring them. If you watch the video at the bottom of the article from Reppler then they will provide some explanation about it.

What do you think of the stats? Are you surprised that the numbers are so high or did you expect them to be even higher? Let us know in the comments section below.
