Talk about throwing the cat among the pigeons! Just when you thought you were up to date with what was on the horizon for the HTC crew, a tiny slip up causes a massive stir in around the internet. It seems that some eagle eyed smartphone follows picked up on an error from Sprint, when the firm posted information about the HTC EVO 4G.
Engadget were quick to comment when the online store suggested in no small terms that the latest EVO 4G would be introduced with Android 2.3 Gingerbread. This seemed like a dream come true for all those waiting in anticipation for the upgraded OS.
Various questions were asked from Gottabemobile like, “was the HTC now shipping with Gingerbread?” Or was this an indication that the 2.3 addition was just around the corner? Perhaps both were true?
There was thought that this could have just been a typo, but this seemed strange as it clearly showed “Now with Android 2.3, “ and then went on to mention it a few more times. The plot thickened when retail stores were contacted and no suggestion that Gingerbread usage was gleaned.
Well we are sad to confirm that Sprint has official said it was a mistake, while there is an Android 2.3 upgrade due shortly for the HTC EVO 4G, as yet this model will still be packing Android 2.2. Disappointing we know, but it certainly got a few tongues wagging. Let us know if you got your hopes up for the Gingerbread arrival?
