Xperia Play on Verizon Pre-Orders Live Now: For May 26 Release

We’ve been reporting on the Sony Ericsson Xperia Play, otherwise known as the PlayStation Phone, for some time. There’s good news today for those who have been waiting for this handset to make it’s way to Verizon as the Xperia Play pre-order page has now gone live with a release date of May 26 being listed with shipping on May 25.

Some of our recent posts on the Xperia Play include a shipment being stolen on the way to New Zealand, and at the beginning of the month we told you how Verizon was listing the handset as ‘coming soon.’ Now we can tell you that the phone is coming to the Big Red and the price is $199.99 with the usual contract or without contract it’s priced at $449.99.

Jerry Hildenbrand over on Android Central brought us the news, sourced from Verizon, so there’s not too much longer for all you eager gamers to wait. Hildenbrand notes that these handsets are “snappy performers” and that the “gameplay looks butter smooth.” If you want to see the full press release then check out an article over on BGR with a reminder that this smartphone has a 1GHz processor, full PSP-style gaming pad, 4-inch multi-touch display and 5-megapixel rear camera along with a VGA front-facer for video chat.

Will you be placing your pre-order now for the Xperia Play or heading out to the store on May 26? Is it the gaming aspect of this phone that appeals to you? Let us have your comments on this.
