HTC EVO 3D vs Sharp 3D Aquos SH-12C: First Choice?

Since the start of 2011, 3D technology has come a long way. Its starting to make its way onto TV’s, gaming consoles and even mobile phones. Over recent weeks, we have given you news on the LG Optimus, HTC EVO and now the Sharp Aquos SH-12C.

Here at OSM, we have already given you a comparison between the HTC EVO and the LG Optimus 3D phones, so it only seems right to put forward the third contender. Just last week we found out that the new Sharp will be available from the 20th May in Japan in either black or white, whilst the HTC is available now direct from carrier Sprint.

In terms of specs, if we start off with the HTC EVO which we know has stirred up quite a lot of interest already, it will include a 4.3-inch qHD display, Android 2.3 Gingerbread, 1.2GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon dual-core processor, 5MP dual-rear cameras with flash, 1.3MP front-facing with the benefit of video recording in either 2D with 1080p or 3D with 720p.

On the other hand, the Sharp with its extremely long name, will come with a slightly smaller 4.2-inch qHD glasses-free 3D display, again running with Android’s 2.3 OS, a bigger 1.4GHz Qualcomm processor and what may cement its place over the HTC is that it incorporates 8MP dual-rear cameras, 3D video recording and so on.

What are your thoughts on the 2 in question? If you had a preference, which one would it be, and why?

Um, the EVO's 1.2 gHz is a dual core 8660. The 1.4 in the Sharp phone is only a single core, older version of Snapdragon. I don't think it'll be cementing it's place over the HTC.

  • Smart Ass

That Sharp phone has a single core 1.4GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon MSM8255 processor. The Evo 3D has a dual core 1.2GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon MSM8660 processor.

  • You are dumb

I would obviously take the htc evo 3d. Its specs are better and it looks much nicer. People need to stop comparing cameras by megapixels. A 5mp camera with higher quality parts will greatly out perform a cheap 8 mp camera.

I will take the EVO 3D over the Sharp ahh-watever any day. It's more than specs alone. To me it's about everything that HTC brings to the table, starting with HTC Sense

I’m 99% sure he meant that the 8mp dual camera cements top honors over a 5mp dual camera. I must agree. My current Evo is an 8mp single & I’d hate to give up that extra clarity (higher megapixel count is essential for crisp shots in macro focus and over long distances) just for the 3D gimmick.

The dual core is my primary reason for wanting an Evo 3D. I think it’s a shame that the display and CPU on the LG are so far behind. Also, the Samsung has fewer hardware keys. I like hardware keys. The old MyTouch had a trackball. The Evo needs that badly, especially with no keyboard! Real cursor control would allow existing Flash web apps to function better, too.

I believe the dual rear 5MP cameras combine to be 10MP, from what I ready anyways. And macro shots with your phone? Really? Come on now….

The LG optimus 3D's TI OMAP 4 processor is an ARM CORTEX A9 processor whereas the HTC evo 3D has a snapdragon that is based on the ARM CORTEX A8 CPU. The LG is far superior even at 1g not to mention that it is a dual channel and dual memory phone and has a better GPU whereas the evo 3D is a single channel phone. The HTC evo 3D does indeed have a better screen resolution with the QHD display but battery consumption will be an issue and graphic rendering will have an impact on the processor. The LG optimus 3D is the optimum choice,

HTC Sense UI is the winner.

The Evo 3D is not available now from Sprint. There isn't even a release date at this point. Also its highly unlikely that when and if a US carrier picks up the Sharp they will use the name Sharp 3D Aquos SH-12C

All other phones will bow to the Evo, if they would only give us a release date…

Went to local sprint corporate store that has the repair center, those are your best shot to pre-order the htc evo3D, i did it yesterday, the manager didnt know about it, she told me no on the phone, but sprint *2 CS told me the likely stores are corporate w/repair center. I went anyway(tricounty store in cincinnati, ohio) she told me ot their, but i told her about my call and showed the article on goodandevo she looked in the back n found the memo, i bought a $50 gift card, im their 1st on the lst

Also yu can try radio shack/best buy, but if yuve been /sprint for awhile you can charge the price of the phone to your account or part if youre lw on funds or dont have an upgrade and have a month or two if you cant py it off at next bill payment. I did it w/htc hero, charged one w/o an upgrade dscount.
