Wireless Charging for HTC Thunderbolt on Verizon: Plans Afoot

Apart from some misgivings about the battery life, the HTC Thunderbolt on Verizon has been quite a hit, with many users impressed by the first 4G handset for the Verizon 4G LTE network. If you’re a Thunderbolt user then we have good news for you today as it seems that wireless charging may be coming to your smartphone.

We’ve published many articles now on the Thunderbolt and recently taken a look at it compared with the Apple iPhone 4, told of a big price cut, looked at sales for the Thunderbolt vs. the iPhone, and given a review roundup but the ideal of wireless charging for this handset hadn’t come to our attention before. We heard about it from Kurt Schutte over on Android Central who reports that documents about this have been filed with the FCC.

Apparently HTC is asking to adapt the back cover of the Thunderbolt, which would lead to wireless charging being enabled. Wireless charging for smartphones is something we should be seeing more and more of and so the fact that HTC is planning for this for the Thunderbolt is a promising sign that it may then come to more devices.

If you haven’t purchased a Thunderbolt yet but want to find out more about it then head to the HTC Thunderbolt product page here. Would you be happy to see wireless charging coming to the HTC Thunderbolt? Let us know with your comments.
