Samsung Original Galaxy Tab Gingerbread Update: 2.3.3 Ready

The new Samsung Galaxy Tab, 10.1 is due to be released next month, but today’s news is for owners of the original Samsung Galaxy Tab as it seems an update is now available, Android 2.3.3 Gingerbread, for the 7-inch tablet.

Don’t get excited that you’ll be getting Android Honeycomb or the next OS, Ice Cream Sandwich though. Instead this Gingerbread 2.3.3 update has already begun being rolled out in Italy and will be rolled out internationally for the original Galaxy Tab, according to Thomas Ricker over on Engadget, sourced from Samfirmware. When the rollout gets to you you’ll be able to update over KIES as firmware/baseband version P1000XXJQ1/P1000XXJPZ.

GSM Arena also reports on the 2.3.3 Gingerbread update and points out that this may be the best update original Galaxy Tab owners will get, as earlier rumors suggested Android 3.0 Honeycomb won’t ever come to the first Tab, the Samsung P1000. However it’s also noted that 2.3.3 is a major update and taking into account the cost of the original Tab, especially as it’s now been reduced, it’s a pretty worthwhile deal.

Do you have the original Samsung Galaxy Tab? Maybe you’re one of the lucky ones to already receive the 2.3.3 Gingerbread update? If so tell us your impressions by sending us your comments.
