Samsung Galaxy SII (or S2) Speed Tests: Blows Away All Comers

The Samsung Galaxy S II or S2 is very much the smartphone of the moment and we’re as excited as many of you about this hugely impressive Android 2.3 Gingerbread handset. It has not yet been released in the U.S. but when it’s finally launched it looks set to be a smash success, considering sales and pre-orders globally. Now that enthusiasm looks well founded after browser speed tests blew away all comers.

We’ve written many articles now on the Galaxy S II including a review roundup and recently a post about the phone being overclocked and a comparison with firstly the Nexus S 4G and then the LG Optimus Big. It’s thought to be coming to AT&T first in the U.S. and we know from comments to our posts how many of you are waiting to get your hands on the Galaxy S II. News of the browser speed tests came to us from Adam Mills over on Gotta Be Mobile, with the video from PocketNow and if you didn’t want one before, you may well do after looking at the results.

The Samsung Galaxy S II was measured against the Apple iPhone 4, the HTC Thunderbolt and Samsung Focus, with tests over Wi-Fi with browser windows closed and caches cleared. The 11-minute video, which we’ve embedded for you below, shows what happened in detail but in short the Galaxy S II walked it, with far higher speeds and smoother performance than the other devices used. It’s pointed out that the phones used against the Galaxy S II in the tests were not dual-core handsets as the Galaxy S II is but the results are still striking.

Take a look at the video and you’ll be able to spot the enthusiasm of the presenter for the Galaxy S II. Meanwhile if you’re in the U.K. you may be interested to hear that although the Galaxy S II is already available there, an NFC-enabled version should be available from June, according to Cnet. What are your thoughts on the Galaxy S II performing so notably in the browser speed tests. Let us know with your comments.
