Facebook Photo Tagging: Page Tags Now Permitted

Facebook is the biggest social network in the world with its number of users soaring to more than 500 million and more than half of them are daily returners. With that being the case the guys that develop the site have to be vigilant about the updates that they add as not all of them are welcomed.

Some of the recent Facebook updates that we have seen include how you can hide your recent activity, no longer needing to type ‘@’ to tag a person in a comment, the groups getting a share button and also how the social networking giant has rolled out its new Questions service. Now we can report that the Facebook photo tagging has been updated; now tagging pages is permitted.

We learned of this through a post on Facebook where they are talking about the updates and use an example where there are two ladies standing with Hip-Hop icon Kanye West and they are actually tagging his ‘Musician/Band’ page in exactly the same way that they would tag a friend.

They also give some instructions which is pretty much the same process that you would normally follow, navigate to your photo, click on ‘Tag This Photo’ below the image, type in the name (or page/musician/brand) and repeat this until you have all the names you want, click on ‘Done Tagging’ from the bottom left hand corner to complete the process.

The only downside that we can see to his is that it will pretty much leave brand pages a little bit less secure from spam and malware such as the ones we have seen appearing through photo tagging previously. We are sure Facebook has considered this and would hope that they have taken any necessary precautions to protect the brands but time will tell. We foresee this being back in the news and not necessarily for the right reasons.

What do you think of the new functionality? Have you tried it out yet? Let us know your thoughts and concerns in the comments section below.
