One OS For Tablet PCs & Smartphones: Google Ice Cream Sandwich

When you look at the way Android has swept the smartphone market clean aside even overpowering Apple with the iPhone and iOS you simply have to sit up and take note. Whilst Apple has been the trend setter in multiple markets Google’s Android platform is certainly looking to make a dent in it and has taken yet another leaf out of the Apple’s book.

We previously reported that Google’s next Android OS would be Ice Cream Sandwich following a new ‘scoop’ and then a second time it was seemingly confirmed as it will fix some bugs. Now we have heard through Engadget’s Vlad Savov that there will be one OS for Tablet PCs & Smarphones and Google are naming it Ice Cream Sandwich.

He mentions in the report Android Ice Cream Sandwich will be clever enough to run and automatically adapt to the device it’s featuring on. We are guessing that from a smartphone perspective many Gingerbread 2.3 users will hopefully receive this update and in terms of tablet PCs we are thinking it will certainly be seen on Honeycomb tablets. This information came through Google’s keynote which you can read more of on this link.

Things start to fall into place now when you think about Google’s other recent announcement about the cloud music service that will run on tablets and smartphones and will be free for a limited time. Another great move from Google with the Android OS and now it’s going to be all eyes on Apple for their event in June.
